Born 1986 in Ness-Ziona, Israel

Currently based in Tel Aviv.

Ishai Shapira Kalter is a Postwar & Contemporary artist, known for his innovative use of materials and his exploration of the curatorial medium as an artistic practice. His works often incorporate industrial materials such as tar, grease, tarpaulin, and galvanized steel, reflecting on themes of protection and exposure within the Israeli context.

He received his MFA from Hunter College, New York, NY (2017), and his BFA from Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, Jerusalem (2013), during which he also studied at The Slade School of Fine Arts, London, UK (2011).

Shapira Kalter’s exhibitions and projects have been hosted by major venues including Traumnovelle, Gold+Beton, Cologne (2023), Documenta XV (2022), Veinti4/Siete Galería, San José (2017), YARAT Studios, Baku (2016), West Space, Melbourne (2015), RawArt Gallery, Tel Aviv (2015), The Helena Rubinstein Pavilion for Contemporary Art, Tel Aviv (2014), and MoBY Bat Yam Museums, Israel (2013), among others.

He has received several fellowships, grants, and scholarships, including The Jean and Albert Nerken Scholarship Fund, The Rabinovich Foundation Grant, and the Israel Lottery Council for Culture and Arts Grant.
