RUTI DE VRIES

Born 1989 in Tel Aviv, Israel

Currently based in Tel Aviv.

Ruti De Vries is a multidisciplinary Postwar & Contemporary artist working in sculpture, painting, collage, sewing, and animation. Her work draws inspiration from ancient, indigenous, and outsider art, exploring themes of mythologies, superstitions, and clichés while balancing two-dimensionality and volume.

She received her B.Ed. in Education and Fine Arts from Hamidrasha – School of Art, Beit Berl College (2012), studied at Beaux-Arts Paris (2014), and completed her MFA at Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, Tel Aviv (2015).

De Vries’s solo exhibitions include WORMHOLE at Nahum Gutman Museum of Art, Tel Aviv (2023), FATHER EARTH MOTHER SKY at PRÁM Studio, Prague (2021), and HEAVY SADNESS at Sha’ar Haamakim Gallery, Israel (2019). She has also participated in group shows at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art (2021) and MoBY: Museums of Bat Yam (2017).

She has received numerous grants and awards, including the Israeli Ministry of Culture Young Artist Prize (2016), support from the Yehoshua Rabinovitz Foundation (2015), Artis, and Asylum Arts.

Her residencies include Cité Internationale des Arts, Paris (2018), PRÁM Studio, Prague (2021), and Artport, Tel Aviv (2024), with an upcoming residency at Künstlerhaus Bethanien (2026).

Her work is held in the collections of the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, the Haaretz art collection, and private collectors.
